Meet the Wine Makers - South Africa - Online

Taste their Wines and Meet the Wine Makers!

The week we are transporting you to the vineyards of the Stellenbosch in South Africa to meet Ken Forrester and to taste 3 of his delicious wines!

“All the problems of the world on one hand – and a glass of Chenin in the other, that’s better!” Ken Forrester

Best known as ‘Mr. Chenin’, - we will be tasting 2 different Chenin Blanc - Ken was one of the first to cherish and respect old-vine Chenin Blanc, to break the mould in terms of vinification style. He still makes a wide range of Chenin Blanc to suit all palates from his base on the slopes of the Helderberg Mountain. Much of this work has been in partnership with his old friend Martin Meinert, and their most famous Chenin, The FMC (Forrester Meinert Chenin), celebrates this long term relationship. Forrester's first bottlings were back in 1994 and he now makes a wide range of wines, including own labels for South African and UK supermarkets. His red focus is on Rhône varieties, which he believes is the way forward for the Cape's largely Mediterranean climate.

Ken is also a restaurateur, and 96 Winery Road is one of the most popular in the winelands. He is one of the 15 original PIWOSA (Premium Independent Wineries of South Africa) members.

The Wines

  • 2017 Sparklehorse, Tradional Style Fizz, £22.50
  • 2019 Petit Pinotage, £10.95
  • 2019 Old Vine Reserve Chenin Blanc, £14.95

How does it work?

The price of the tasting buys you a “seat at our table” so to speak – we’ll send you a Zoom link so you can join us online.

We’ll taste the wines with the wine maker and we’ll hear about the wine, how it was made, what makes it special, what’s happening in the vineyard/country at the moment, anything of interest and there is an opportunity to ask questions like "what food would you pair with this wine", "how important are the soils in your vineyard", "what impact has climate change had on you", the choice is yours.

The wine for the tasting is NOT included in this price, the wine can be purchased separately from our online wine tasting partners Great Wine Co. You don't need to buy all the wines – the choice is yours.

If you like the idea of this event it is week 1 in a series of 4, where we visit Argentina, Chile, South Africa and Australia. CLICK HERE FOR FULL DETAILS plus if you buy all 12 bottles for the 4 week events there is a discounted price on the case of wine  – which will be sent to you upon booking.
