Meet the Wine Makers - Chile
Taste their Wines and Meet the Wine Makers!
The week we are transporting you to the vineyards of the Elqui Valley in Chile to meet the team at Viña Falerni and to taste 3 of their delicious wines!
Viña Falerni a was established in 1998 as the first producer of fine wine in the Elqui Valley. Aldo Olivier Gramola was one of the Elqui Valley pioneers He emigrated to Chile with his family from Trento in Northern Italy in 1951 as a child. After first establishing a successful Pisco distillery using grapes he had grown he saw the potential of the valley for wine production. A meeting in 1995 with his winemaker cousin, Giorgio Flessati led to the planting of vineyards and the founding of the winery, the most Northerly in Chile hundreds of miles from the traditional growing areas.
“With such a dry climate and wide thermal amplitude, and this mineral character of Elqui, each grape has a defined personality that came though immediately,” recalls Flessati from his first visit to the region. “It was just a feeling. No kind of commercial plan or economic study… I liked the place and I also really like difficult challenges, almost impossible ones!” And now the wines speak for themselves!
- 2017 Carmenere Gran Reserva, £14.95
- 2017 Syrah Reserva, £10.95
- 2019 Elki Pedro Ximenez, £9.50 (this is not a sherry!)
How does it work?
The price of the tasting buys you a “seat at our table” so to speak – we’ll send you a Zoom link so you can join us online.
We’ll taste the wines with the wine maker and we’ll hear about the wine, how it was made, what makes it special, what’s happening in the vineyard/country at the moment, anything of interest and there is an opportunity to ask questions like "what food would you pair with this wine", "how important are the soils in your vineyard", "what impact has climate change had on you", the choice is yours.
The wine for the tasting is NOT included in this price, the wine can be purchased separately from our online wine tasting partners Great Wine Co. You don't need to buy all the wines – the choice is yours.
If you like the idea of this event it is week 1 in a series of 4, where we visit Argentina, Chile, South Africa and Australia. CLICK HERE FOR FULL DETAILS plus if you buy all 12 bottles for the 4 week events there is a discounted price on the case of wine – which will be sent to you upon booking.
