Discover Wines of Bordeaux and the Rhone Valley
Bordeaux, probably the most famous wine region in the World!
Do you know the difference between the Left Bank and the Right Bank and why the wines are different? Bordeaux is naturally split into two by the River Gironde – we’ll explore both sides, explain the styles of wine to expect, talk about that French word “terroir” and why some vintages are amazing and others not so fabulous.
You may know the principal grape varieties in Bordeaux are Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, but have you tasted wines with Cabernet Franc or Petit Verdot in them?
We'll also be trying some white wines made using Sauvignon Blanc and Semillon.
The we're heading East to the Rhone Valley, where we find the grape Syrah (Shiraz) and its’ multifaceted styles. The other fabulous grape we need to tryfrom this agrea is the spicy Grenache, and these two grapes together exist because of the hot climate down here, making more intense and full-bodied wines. We’ll explore some classics maybe Chateauneuf-du-Pape, Vacqueras or Hermitage.
We'll be tasting at least 6 wonderful wines at this fascinating evening.
