Course Description

Over 3 weeks, get to grips with how wine is made, the most important wine producing countries and regions and the world's most important grape varieties. Whether you're looking for a new favoutrite in the wine aisle or navigate a restaurant wine list with confidence, this course is for you! By tasting and comparing at least 6 wines each evening in a fun, friendly and relaxed setting, by the end of the course you will be able to:

  • taste wine like a professional
  • assess the quality of a wine
  • identify key wine aromas and flavours
  • recognise the world’s most important red, white and rosé wines
  • read an understand a wine label
  • make better food and wine pairings

and so much more!

What does the course cover?

Week 1 – Introduction to Wine Tasting
Week 1 will cover the basics: how wine is made and where in the world it comes from, how to taste wine and assess it like a true professional by indentifying key components, aromas and flavours. We'll taste 6 classic wines from varieties such as Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Pinot Noir and Shiraz to really get to grips with why different wines can taste so different.

Week 2 – White and Rosé Wines of the World
In Week 2 we’ll move on to talk about white and rosé wines. We’ll look again at winemaking and grape varieties and taste examples of different wine styles from around the world. We'll examine effect of oak on aromas and flavours and join in the debate on which is better - cork or screwcap.

Week 3 – Red Wines of the World
What's your preferred red wine style? Big and bold or light and delicate?  In Week 3, we’ll explain the  reasons for the diffences in the huge variety of red wine styles to be found. We'll taste 6 more fantastic wines and talk tannin, discuss why some wines get better with age, and share some useful tips on serving temperatures and why/when to decant a wine.
