4 week Tour de France!
Join us on a Wine Tour de France!
You won't have to dress in Lycra or slog up and down the mountains on a bike to enjoy this tour - all you have to do is sit back and enjoy the best wines which France has to offer.
France is the biggest producer of wine in the world and has a rich variety of regions and styles. On our 4 week tasting course we select a different region each week and have a close look at its unique characteristics:-
27th Feb 2019 - The first week takes us to the Rhone Valley and the South of France , perhaps the most exciting and innovative French wine region today. Warm temperatures enable big, full bodied wines which rival the New World for fruit packed punch. We will choose the best examples of quality and value, and sample the different styles, along with some mouth watering whites and crisp roses.
6th March 2019 - On the next stage of our Tour we go to Burgundy, home of some of France's greatest whites and reds. We will taste steely, lemony Chablis and move on to more honeyed, riper white Burgundies, showing the versatility of the Chardonnay grape and how it changes with the addition of oak ageing. Pinot Noir is the great red grape of Burgundy and we will taste its different styles from light and fruity to rich and opulent.
13th March 2019 - Week 3 sees us going North to Epernay, home of Champagne (!) and the Loire Valley, with a host of different styles and grape varieties, from the dry and yeasty Muscadet to the original Sauvignon Blancs from the Central Region around Sancerre, not forgetting the reds and roses of Anjou and Touraine.
20th March 2019 - The cycling Tour de France has its finale in Paris, but our final stage goes to the wine capital of France - Bordeaux. Here we will learn about the eternal rivalry between Cabernet Sauvignon and Merlot, we will taste Bordeaux's distinctive styles of Sauvignon Blanc , and also taste the great luscious wine of the region.
Each week we will taste 6 specially selected wines which show what each region is capable of!
There is a charge for the cost of the wine (in addition to the £90 course fee) of £10 per evening payable on the night. Great value - the cost of the course is still £32.50 per evening.
